Catskill Mountain Railway

The Catskill Mountain Railroad Scenic Train is a 12 mile round trip between Phoenicia and Cold Brook station (Boiceville) — a wonderful hour and thirty minute railroad excursion. After arriving at the Mount Tremper depot, purchase your ticket from the ticket agent. There is plenty of time to visit our snack bar and gift shop. After departing Mount Tremper, your ride will be along the Esopus Creek, famed for its scenic beauty and great fishing. You may even spot bald eagles, great blue herons, hawks, deer and other wildlife along its banks. Framing the beautiful Esopus Valley on either side of the creek are namesake Mount Tremper to the north and Mount Pleasant and Romer Mountain to the south.

At Phoenicia, step into the past by visiting the historic 1900 railroad depot, home of the Empire State Railway Museum. Here you can explore railroading both past and present along the old Ulster & Delaware route. Upon re-boarding, the train now sets out for Cold Brook station, located in Boiceville. This portion of the extended track offers a fresh variety of scenic vistas along the Esopus Creek, through the woods, and returns to Mt. Pleasant.

Directions: Take the New York State Thruway (I-87) to Kingston, Exit 19. For Kingston City Shuttle trains, take I-587 to the end, make a right onto Albany Ave., a right onto Clinton Ave., and a right onto Westbook Lane. For the Esopus Scenic Train and Fall Foliage specials, take Route 28 West to Mount Tremper or Phoenicia to begin your journey on Ulster County's only scenic railway!
