Second Saturdays: Early Hearths of the Hudson Valley

Rob Sweeney, local historian and old house enthusiast will present a power point presentation tracing the evolution of the "Jambless fireplace" from medieval Europe to the popularity of the "Rumford Fireplace" of the early 19th century, and will explore the role of tradition over comfort among the residents within the region. This programs pairs excellently with Dutch Vernacular Architecture in North America 1640 to 1830 by John Stevens, which is available in the Museum Shop.  Snow date:  Saturday, February 20th.  $7 per person.  $5 for Friends of Historic Huguenot Street and members of Hudson Valley Vernacular Architecture.
