Strauss' Enoch Arden

Carey Harrison and Justin Kolb are at it again. This time they have chosen British melodrama-their own stylized production of Alfred Lord Tennyson's epic narrative poem, Enoch Arden. Not quite Pirates of the Caribbean-despite containing a shipwreck, a desert island, and  passionate young lovers-this 19th-century gem was set to music by Richard Strauss, the same composer whose Also Sprach Zarathustra served as the perfect movie score for 2001: A Space Odyssey. Here Strauss' ravishing music underscores the narrative drama of this work by England's most famous Poet Laureate.
